Sean Ryan Gumin is a woodwind repairman at Evanston Band and Orchestra / the Saxophone Shop in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to moving to Chicago, Sean worked for the Fox Products Corporation in South Whitley, Indiana. While at Fox Products, he was part of the design, production and repair of bassoons and contrabassoons under the mentorship of Chip Owen. Sean received a diploma in band instrument repair from the Red Wing (MN) Technical College. He has worked as a band instrument repair technician in Baltimore, Washington DC, Minnesota, and California while also teaching privately and as a middle school band director. He performs regularly with local Chicago-land orchestras, including the Illinois Philharmonic and Quad City Symphony.
Sean holds a Master of Music from the University of Illinois and a
Bachelor of Music from the University of Oregon. His primary teachers
were Timothy McGovern of the Montreal Symphony, Burl Lane of the Chicago
Symphony, and Roger Soren of the Louisville Orchestra.
He has had the privilege to learn and watch some great repairman
including Holden McAleer of Baltimore Woodwinds and Lee Lachman of
Woodwind Services in College Park, MD.
In his free time, Sean can be found as a proud Oregon alumnus who
loyally supports all Duck teams and who cries over the loveable Chicago
Cubs year in and year out.
